保津川左岸の尾根筋にある明智越えを歩く。
悲運の武将、明智光秀が歩いた、保津より嵯峨に越える峰の道を「明智越え」という。明智越えは嵯峨に達する道であると同時に、本能寺の変でも戦勝祈願に愛宕山に参拝した道でもあり、光秀は庶民や騎馬武者がたやすく通れるようにと整備したとも言われている尾根ルートだ。明智光秀が１万5000騎の軍を三段に備えて、北より明智越え、唐櫃越え、老ノ坂越えの三面より本能寺に向かったことでもよく知られている。
車で5～10分走らすと，結構な史跡名跡が多数あり、手軽なウォーキングが出来る環境に有り，恵まれていますね。
